Learn to tell stories with sound! Students will create and produce original radio stories, nurturing creativity, civic awareness and technological proficiency through writing, interviewing and editing. Loosely based on Chicago Public Radio’s This American Life, our show will be centered around a common theme. Using the theme as a guide, students will be encouraged to tell personal stories as well as to cover stories at the local, regional, national, or international level, thinking about what is happening in our world right now.

This class is an introduction to the Lego Mindstorms RCX program. Working in teams of 2, each team will build a robot, and then use the Robolab programming language to beam their program into the Lego RCX programmable brick. The robots they create will move, blink, and play music in response to touch and light sensors. An RCX robot is easy to build and modify, and is a fun introduction to the way robots work.

Working in teams of 2, students will build a robot, and then program it to respond to a variety of sensors, including touch, light, sound and ultrasound. The NXT robot is more difficult to build, but is sturdier and is the robot used in the First Lego League competitions.
