Summer camps

Summer camps are a great way to spend the summer learning and exploring all things science. Spend the summer as a scientist and explore the world around you!

NEW THIS YEAR: All day camp combos!
Pick a morning and afternoon camp to create your personalized all-day learning adventure! Your scientist will experience one exciting morning camp, break for a supervised lunch, then start the science fun again with an afternoon camp! (Lunch not provided.) There's sure to be a combo for your budding scientist!

Members-only registration begins February 1, 2018.
Open registration begins February 15, 2018.

Camp Pricing & Details

Mini Camps:
Mini camps run Monday - Wednesday
Members: $70
Non-Members: $85

Morning and/or Afternoon Camps:
Camps run Monday - Thursday
Members: $165
Non-Members: $190

Morning and Afternoon Camps require a deposit of $80.00 per camp/per camper at time of registration. Remaining balance is due 7 days prior to camp start date.

Mini Camps require full payment at time of registration and are non-refundable.

Cancellations made within 30 days of camp start date will forfeit the $80 deposit. No refunds will be issued for cancellations due to illness or change in your summer plans.

Outdoor Explorer Mini

Ages: 5 - 6

Learn what it takes to bring science outdoors, a must for any active little scientist! Pint-size explorers in this camp will spend part of the time outside, playing animal games and learning plant identification, and learning to safely explore the living world.

Secret Agent

Ages: 7 - 9

Enter the world of espionage as you race the clock to crack codes, navigate mazes and unravel the mystery!

Outdoor Explorers

Ages: 8 - 10
8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Monday - Thursday
Learn what it takes to stay alive and thrive outdoors, whether you’re a grizzly or a grade schooler! Learn about animal behavior and gain skills like compass orientation, shelter building and plant identification. We’ll explore the biology, geology, and ecology of Mount Helena. Each day, students will need water, good hiking shoes, sunscreen, snacks, and a comfortable pack to hold supplies on our outdoor adventures. (This camp is also offered June 25 - 28.)
*Note: This camp is not held at ExplorationWorks. Students must be dropped off and picked up at either Mt Helena trailhead or Spring Meadow State Park, 2 miles from ExplorationWorks.

Daily Dissection

Ages: 10 - 14

If you’re fascinated by the insides of organisms, this is the camp for you! In this class we’ll practice comparative anatomy as we perform daily dissections on a wide variety of items. Specimens could include sheep eyes, owl pellets, mice, turtles, and squirmy invertebrates.

LEGO Creations

Ages: 6 - 9

LEGOs are loved by people of all ages. Let’s take that love of LEGOs to the next level! Construct contraptions, design your dream house, experiment with Lego mini-fig physics - plus enjoy free build time for your own LEGO creations! (This camp is also offered July 16 - 19 and August 6 - 9.)

SciGirls

Ages: 10 - 13

Inspired by the nationwide TV program, SciGirls, this camp lets girls work together to design inventions in fun and fabulous challenges. These hands-on, minds-on activities will stretch your creativity and problem-solving skills. As SciGirls, we’ll meet female engineers, experts, and researchers who help us take our experiments to the next level.

Tech Masters

Ages: 10+

Do you find yourself fiddling with circuits or playing with programming? This camp is for the tech master interested in Raspberry Pi microcomputers, coding with Scratch, Sphero robotics, and learning the basics of programming through computer-aided design (CAD). (This camp is also offered June 25 - 28.)

Culinary Camp Mini

Ages: 5 - 6

Kindergartners are curious and eager to get into the action, making this an ideal age to get kids involved in the kitchen. From eating a rainbow, to cooking with acids and bases, this camp shows young chefs that science really cooks!

Ingenious Inventions

Ages: 7 - 9

In this camp, creativity is the mother of all invention! Young problem-solvers are challenged to design incredible contraptions, then take their ideas from imagination to action. If you can dream it, you can invent it! 

Practical Potions

Ages: 9 - 13
8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Monday - Thursday
Can you beat the summer heat using household ingredients? Have you ever wanted to make your own cleaning supplies and soap? Answer these questions and impress your family and friends with your homemade creations such as toothpaste, insect repellent, soap, laundry detergent,  bubble solution and ice cream. It’s all about science and fun when it comes to making practical potions! (This camp is also offered June 11 - 14.)

Force Academy

Ages: 6 - 8

Young Padawans, come join the resistance and build your Jedi skills!  Explore the physics of space flight, the engineering of lightsabers and the chemistry of Jabba the Hutt’s slime. You may even meet a helpful droid!

Molecular Mayhem

Intro to EV3 Robotics

Ages: 10+

Are you curious about robotics and want to try something new and exciting? Why not try EV3, Lego’s most advanced robotics platform? EV3 is more powerful and complex than NXT, allowing for advanced builds and sensors. EV3 has interactive servo motors with built-in rotation sensors along with color sensor, gyro sensor, ultrasonic sensor, and touch sensors. (This camp is also offered June 18 - 21.)

Birds, Beasts and Bugs Mini

Ages: 4 - 5

Think you have the chops needed for this cooking extravaganza? We’ll put your cooking skills to the test by competing in cooking contests and preparing a family feast. Suit up with a spatula as your sword and an apron as your armor for this culinary adventure!
*Note: This camp will be held at the Brondel Center in the Helena Cathedral (north entrance). Students must be dropped off and picked up at this facility.

Intro to NXT Robotics

Kids Kicking Cancer Camp

Ages: ALL

The fifth annual KKCC will feature the “greatest hits” of our summer camp activities. Our goal is to give cancer patients and survivors a great opportunity to have adventures, do science, learn about themselves, and have fun. This camp is for kids who have beaten cancer or are currently in treatment, and their siblings. Please consult your doctor to make sure attending this camp is a safe decision.

Lego Da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was one of the greatest artists, thinkers and inventors that ever lived. His creations were the building blocks for modern technological inventions. Intro to Tetrix Robotics

Ages: 11+
1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Monday - Thursday
Let's take Robotics to the next level!  Each pair of students will build a heavy duty aluminum chassis and robotic arm, then learn how to use Java and WiFi to control it.  This gives roboticists a chance to understand the control systems used by real-world computer scientists and by programmers in the competitive high school league.  Previous robotics experience not required but is strongly recommended.
