When are you open?
ExplorationWorks is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We are closed on Mondays.

Are you closed on holidays?
Yes. ExplorationWorks closes on certain holidays so our team can enjoy time with family. We are closed on:

How much does it cost to visit ExplorationWorks?
ExplorationWorks offers affordable admission for families and visitors looking for fun things to do in Helena, Montana:

We accept all major credit cards, cash, and local checks.
Where can I park when visiting ExplorationWorks?
Free parking is available at the Great Northern Town Center Parking Lot, next to the Carousel. ExplorationWorks is just east of the Carousel. The lot has a 2-hour limit. Additional paid parking can be found at the Great Northern Parking Garage, one block south of our Helena science museum.
Please note: Parking is not permitted behind the Carousel or ExplorationWorks.
What exhibits do you feature at ExplorationWorks?
ExplorationWorks features interactive science exhibits and hands-on STEM experiences for all ages. Major exhibits rotate 3–4 times per year, and we also offer permanent exhibits for year-round learning and play.

What are the benefits of an ExplorationWorks membership?

What is the ASTC Passport Program?
The ASTC Passport Program gives ExplorationWorks members free admission to hundreds of science museums worldwide. When you travel outside Helena, you can enjoy other science centers at no extra cost (with some restrictions).
Please note:
At Museum of the Rockies, ExplorationWorks members receive a 20% discount instead of free admission (effective Jan 1, 2024).

Can I take photos?
Absolutely! We encourage guests to capture memories during their visit. Please be respectful of other visitors' privacy. Commercial photography or videography requires prior approval from ExplorationWorks.
Can I drop off my kids at ExplorationWorks?
No. For the safety of all guests, visitors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a supervising adult (16 or older) at all times while visiting the museum.
Can I leave and come back the same day?
Yes! Simply stop by the front desk before you leave to receive a hand stamp for re-entry later that day.
Can I bring outside food and drinks?
Outside food and drinks are welcome, but please enjoy them in designated areas only. Food and beverages are not permitted on carpeted exhibit areas. Please enjoy snacks at the café tables on the main level of our museum.
Alcohol is prohibited inside the museum.
Are strollers allowed?
Yes! Strollers are welcome throughout most areas of the museum. We ask that they be parked out of walkways whenever possible.
Can I breastfeed or bottle-feed my child?
Absolutely. ExplorationWorks welcomes parents and caregivers to feed their children anywhere they feel comfortable.

Do you offer birthday parties at ExplorationWorks?
Yes! Host your child’s special day at Helena’s favorite STEM-themed birthday party venue. Our birthday party package includes:
All-day museum admission for up to 30 guests (including adults)
A private party room for 2 hours

What is WonderLab Preschool?
WonderLab Preschool, located inside ExplorationWorks, is a unique STEM-based preschool in Helena for ages 2–5. The program combines early science education with nature-based learning to build confidence and curiosity.
