Summer camps

Summer camps are a great way to spend the summer learning and exploring all things science. Spend the summer as a scientist and explore the world around you!

NEW THIS YEAR: All day camp combos!
Pick a morning and afternoon camp to create your personalized all-day learning adventure! Your scientist will experience one exciting morning camp, break for a supervised lunch, then start the science fun again with an afternoon camp! (Lunch not provided.) There's sure to be a combo for your budding scientist!

Members-only registration begins February 1, 2018.
Open registration begins February 15, 2018.

Morning and Afternoon Camps require a deposit of $80.00 per camp/per camper at time of registration. Remaining balance is due 7 days prior to camp start date.

Mini Camps require full payment at time of registration and are non-refundable.

Cancellations made within 30 days of camp start date will forfeit the $80 deposit. No refunds will be issued for cancellations due to illness or change in your summer plans.

Practical Potions

Can you beat the summer heat using household ingredients? Have you ever wanted to make your own cleaning supplies and soap? Answer these questions and impress your family and friends with your homemade creations such as toothpaste, insect repellent, soap, laundry detergent,  bubble solution and ice cream. It’s all about science and fun when it comes to making practical potions! (This camp is also offered July 30 - Aug 2.)

 

Take Flight

Are you fascinated by all things flying? Master the power of flight as you hover, glide and swoop your way through this exciting new camp. Investigate birds, planes, and ‘copters and take home your own flying creations engineered to defy gravity!



Tech Detectives

Decode the mysteries of circuits and LEGO robotics and become tech detectives with this new camp! Young technology enthusiasts will learn the basics of robotics, build circuits, and dissect computers. What will you discover? (This camp is also offered June 18 - 21.)


3-D Printing

Ever wondered how a 3D printer works? What about designing your very own creation to be printed on a 3D printer? Learn computer-aided design (CAD) programming, experiment with different materials, and complete a different challenge every day! (This camp is also offered July 16 - 19.)

Prehistoric Party Mini

Preschool paleontologists, dig this dino party! Your favorite dinosaurs come to life in this world of prehistoric pretend. We’ll imagine dinosaurs, create dinosaurs and become our favorite dinosaurs - it’s prehistoric paradise for young dinosaur lovers!


Prehistoric Party

Extreme Fort Building

Take fort-building to the next level! Train your brain to build with engineering challenges and learn the basics of architectural design. Collaborate with local engineers and architects to experience what it takes to build astounding structures. The final day brings it all together as we construct our own amazing forts! Full STEAM Ahead

Curious About Canines Mini

Young dog-lovers will explore the sensory world of dogs through art and inquiry. Discover how to safely meet our furry friends and imagine what it would be like to see through the eyes of a dog. Woof!

Humans and canines make an amazing team. Dogs can search for lost hikers, sniff out contraband, apprehend criminals, and perform incredible feats of agility. In this camp, you’ll meet these dogs and their humans - plus make your own dog toys and explore the canine world!


Outdoor Explorers

Ages: 8 - 10

Monday - Thursday
Learn what it takes to stay alive and thrive outdoors, whether you’re a grizzly or a grade schooler! Learn about animal behavior and gain skills like compass orientation, shelter building and plant identification. We’ll explore the biology, geology, and ecology of Mount Helena. Each day, students will need water, good hiking shoes, sunscreen, snacks, and a comfortable pack to hold supplies on our outdoor adventures. (This camp is also offered July 16 - 19.)
*Note: This camp is not held at ExplorationWorks. Students must be dropped off and picked up at either Mt Helena trailhead or Spring Meadow State Park, 2 miles from ExplorationWorks.

Wonderful World of Dogs

Dog lovers unite! Explore how dogs have changed over time to become the amazingly diverse companions we know and love. Learn about the physical characteristics of working dogs that make them suitable for their particular jobs. Guest speakers visit the class to do demonstrations and answer questions about our favorite four-legged friends.

This camp is for the tech master interested in Raspberry Pi microcomputers, coding with Scratch, Sphero robotics, and learning the basics of programming through computer-aided design (CAD). Water Wonders

You’re sure to get your feet wet as we explore different streams and ponds on an aquatic expedition around Helena! Capture and identify the elusive creatures that live under and near the water, and learn what makes water healthy.  We’ll bring a few of our macroinvertebrates back to ExplorationWorks and magnify them on the big screen – you’ll be amazed!


Pirate Camp

Ages: 6 - 8

Ahoy! We’re looking for swashbuckling girls and boys who are eager to earn their sea legs. When you join this crew, you’ll invent handy pirate tools, sail unsinkable ships, decipher treasure maps, and embark on treasure-hunting adventures. Be sure to bring your sunscreen, water bottle, and good walking shoes or you’ll be walking the plank!


3-D Printing

Come explore the final frontier known as space. Explore the enormity of the universe, create your own planet, play with toys, make space suits and even eat some space food. To infinity and beyond is merely the beginning for this class!

Is there life beyond our solar system? Can humans colonize other planets? Explore the cosmos while investigating extraterrestrial life-support systems, building rockets and designing a Mars habitat. Spaceships and rovers are only the beginning in this stellar camp!


Botany Bonanza

Kids Kicking Cancer Camp

The fifth annual KKCC will feature the “greatest hits” of our summer camp activities. Our goal is to give cancer patients and survivors a great opportunity to have adventures, do science, learn about themselves, and have fun. This camp is for kids who have beaten cancer or are currently in treatment, and their siblings. Please consult your doctor to make sure attending this camp is a safe decision. 


B.E.S.T. Camp

Lego Da Vinci

Ages: 6 - 9

Leonardo da Vinci was one of the greatest artists, thinkers and inventors that ever lived. His creations were the building blocks for modern technological inventions. In this camp you will channel your inner inventor using everyone’s favorite building material, LEGO, and tinker with your own creations.


Intro to Tetrix Robotics

Ages: 11+
1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Monday - Thursday
Let's take Robotics to the next level!  Each pair of students will build a heavy duty aluminum chassis and robotic arm, then learn how to use Java and WiFi to control it.  This gives roboticists a chance to understand the control systems used by real-world computer scientists and by programmers in the competitive high school league.  Previous robotics experience not required but is strongly recommended.

The ExplorationWorks scholarship fund ensures that all families have the chance to experience ExplorationWorks’ interactive and fun-filled science education programming. There are a limited number of scholarships available. Please submit a form for each child. Click here for the online scholarship form.
